It’s not every day that you get to sit down and enjoy a glass of wine with an iconic photographer like Greg Kadel who is loved not only by me, but the entire creative community.
This was a long awaited dream come true. As the Editor in Chief of Faddy Magazine USA, I will never forget the evening sitting in Soho at a small neighborhood cafe chatting about this issue.
I still pinch myself thinking about how magical it was to meet someone who I admire so greatly.
I simply said to Greg “My dear it’s your story to tell. Make magic and do what you do best. I will curate the issue to whatever you decide and have the other creatives and photographers follow suit.” Greg replied to me “Candice I’d love to call it Poetry in Motion. I want it to feel free and I see lots of movement.“
Little did Greg know that “Poetry In Motion” is my pen name for writing poetry.
After many years of admiration of Greg’s work and meeting for the first time, I felt like I was sitting with a kindred spirit, a dear friend from the moment we sat down. This being the second opportunity to feature his glorious work on my cover once again.
We sat together and discussed the flow of the issue. Whenever I give a cover to a photographer that sets the tone of the entire issue. This issue is no exception.
For me this was a gift and so much more. You see my mother was diagnosed with cancer on February 13, 2023 and passed away on March 31, 2023.
Greg knew what was happening and said to me that this issue meant even more to him because of what I was going through and my loss. He also said that he was going to go all out, and he did. In return I put in a great deal of focus, care and energy in returning the gesture to him by curating something iconic and legendary. Something that people will not forget. Greg thank you for your generosity of spirit and putting together the most beautiful team and muses.
This entire issue is about movement, flow and most of all freedom to create on all levels. In doing so, I am dedicating this issue to my mother who was a mega designer, creative, poet, an iconic night club owner in Greenwich Village called the Cafe Au Go Go.
She exemplified everything that you will see in this issue. My mother was all about the creative community and created safe spaces for her friends and the entire community at my parents nightclub.
She was a trailblazer and even went to jail with Lenny Bruce to fight for the freedom of speech act. That’s a big act to follow and I’m grateful to be able to facilitate this level of freedom with my magazine.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this issue. Everyone poured so much love and gorgeous energy into the work and me.
I am so proud of what we all have created together as a community of photographers, artists and creatives.
Everyone involved in this issue knew what was happening in my life and the outpouring of love can be seen on the pages of this issue.
I marvel over your mastery and grace. With all of this being said I am so grateful for the honor of sharing with you Faddy Magazine USA’s “Poetry in Motion Summer Issue“dedicated to my mother Ella Zelda Solomon who left this earthly plane on March 31, 2023.
I hope I am making you proud and you are smiling from the heavens.
“Mom this one’s for you.”
Your loving daughter Candice.
